Q1.) Why was zoomtoit.com created?
A1.) This website was developed for several reasons. First, Dr. Szumlas, the
principal of St. Henry School in Calgary Alberta, noticed that children working
on the Internet tend to revert back to websites that have games which have very
little correlation to the Alberta curriculum. This was a disappointing
realization as the Internet is rich with meaningful curriculum activities.
Secondly, Dr. Szumlas also noticed that a lot of time was wasted in computer
class as on-line activities are often hidden deep within websites that required
extensive scrolling of web pages. Thirdly, it is difficult for the best of
teachers to stay up-to-date with the ever changing world of the Internet.
Therefore, zoomtoit.com was created to help students access meaningful
curriculum activities; to save class time during Internet activities; and to
help teachers focus their teaching.
Q2.) Why are there no links for Kindergarten or Jr. High?
A2.) This is still under review. Please send us your feedback
as we consider these areas.
Q3.) What criteria is used when evaluating sites?
A3.) Several factors are considered such as: curriculum content, source of the
site, does the site work without sound, as most computers lack this feature,
graphics and relevance of the activity.
Q4.) Some pages have few links? What's up with that?
Q4.) After several months of development zoomtoit.com was launched on January 9,
2004. zoomtoit.com is based upon the belief that having quality sites is better
than having a large quantity of sites that may be unmanageable for students.
Like most websites, zoomtoit.com is a work in progress. Over time more sites
will be added. Please refresh zoomtoit.com by clicking on the refresh button at
the top of your web browser to see new websites. We welcome your suggestions for
